EXPERIENCE: Relevant experience preferred. At least two years supervisory experience preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Provides shift supervision for Patient Transporters and Support Associates (approximately 8 staff members per shift) FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Considers financial implications of decisions related to daily supply order, equipment management and use of overtime. WORKING CONDITIONS: Able to work in a fast paced and stressful environment. Ability to stand for several hours at a time. Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Under the supervision of the Emergency Department Operations Manager and Administrative Director, the Support Services Team Leader provides shift leadership responsibilities for Support Associates and Patient Transporters (approximately 8-10 FTEs per shift). The Team Leader is the key troubleshooting expert available during the shift for equipment, supplies, and transport issues, and he/she is cross-trained as both a Support Associate and a Patient Transporter, maintaining the ability to fill in and work in both of these capacities, as necessary. The Team Leader serves as the on-site expert point person for clinical staff in addressing supply and equipment problems and concerns. The Team Leader ensures that all supplies and equipment are available and maintained in the Emergency Department, and that patients are transported in a safe and efficient manner, and he/she actively intervenes to reallocate staff if bottlenecks or delays occur. The Team Leader works closely with the Operations Manager and Administrative Director to continually improve the Environment of Care in the Emergency Department. The Team Leader ensures that the patient transport function operates smoothly and supports efficient patient flow and throughput in the department. Candidates must be available for a 3 week full-time (Monday-Friday; 7:00 am - 3:30 pm) training period prior to starting the evening shift . PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Shift Supervision · Provides shift leadership and assigns duties to the Emergency Department Support Associates and Patient Transporters (approximately 8-10 FTEs per shift). · Assists in monitoring the workflow for supply and equipment management and patient transport functions. Adjusts resources as necessary to meet changing needs in department. · Assists Emergency Department Charge Coordinator with operational support as necessary. · Escalates staff issues to Operations Manager Supervisor and Administrative Director. · Serves as a supply and equipment resource for all Emergency Department staff. Maintains expertise in all areas of supply and equipment management. · Conducts quality assurance on specialty carts to ensure supplies are stocked appropriately and provides direct feedback to Support Associate staff. Central Supply Management · Conducts ongoing inventory management and maintains par levels. · Ensures that Emergency Department supply rooms, closets and medication rooms are fully stocked on a daily basis. Maintains overall organization and cleanliness of supply rooms, meeting all regulatory requirements. · Works with hospital Materials Management staff to ensure that Emergency Department supplies are delivered from central supply area to the Emergency Department clean supply room. · Maintains inventory of special purchase items. Supply and Equipment Management/Daily Operations · Responds to urgent pages from clinical staff, troubleshoots issues, and solves problems to ensure appropriate clinical support. Provides excellent customer service support to end users. · Ensures that the following mission-critical Support Associate tasks are carried out: o Checks each treatment bay in area(s) assigned for shift. Ensures that all supplies and equipment (including headwall items) are present, clean, in working order and organized. Replaces, cleans or makes repairs as necessary. Items to check in each bay include but are not limited to monitors, cables, lead wires, otoscope/opthalmoscope, suction equipment, oxygen equipment, defibrillator, pumps, temporal artery thermometers, and blood pressure setups. o Checks, stocks and organizes supply carts in each treatment bay in area(s) assigned for shift. o Checks, stocks and organizes specialty supply carts in area(s) assigned for shift. Specialty supply carts include but are not limited to the difficult airway cart, intubation boxes, Broselow carts, OB/GYN cart, procedural sedation cart and ENT cart. o Checks, maintains, cleans and organizes equipment located in area(s) assigned for shift, including centrally managed equipment. Equipment includes but is not limited to ultrasound machines, portable vital sign monitors, doppler machines, EKG machines, IV poles, soiled linen hampers, computers on wheels. o Delivers soiled equipment to Sterile Processing Department for decontamination. Ensures that equipment is retrieved after it is cleaned and is placed back in proper location for use. Equipment that needs to be cleaned in this manner includes but is not limited to intubating bronchoscopes and associated equipment, and endocavity ultrasound probe. · Monitors expiration dates of commodities by rotating stock and visually checking expiration dates, to ensure usage or return to inventory prior to expiring. · Collaborates with Emergency Department clinical and administrative staff, Environmental Services staff, Biomedical Engineering staff, Sterile Processing staff and others to identify and remedy supply and equipment problems, obtain supplies and equipment, and coordinate equipment cleaning and repair. · Stocks patient treatment rooms with all necessary forms. · Helps maintain a clean, organized and safe environment in the Emergency Department. · Completes written report at the end of each shift to document tasks completed and items requiring follow up. Patient Transport · Monitors Epic electronic transport board during shift and manages patient transport flow as necessary. · Ensures that the following mission-critical Patient Transporter tasks are carried out: · Transports patients to areas throughout the hospital facility. · Delivers specimens to laboratories. · Transports deceased patients to the morgue. · Runs errands as needed by clinical and administrative staff. · Provides internal transport/escort of patients within the Emergency Department. · Responsible for moving and lifting patients safely. · Responsible for acknowledging and reporting an emergency situation. · Transports used code carts to Exchange Room and delivers replacement code cart. · Retrieves Emergency Department equipment from areas throughout the hospital. · Supervises Patient Transport staff to ensure that staff engage with patients in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner. Ensures that staff respect diversity and maintain confidentiality. Other Tasks · Exhibits diplomacy and communicates with others in a manner that demonstrates respect, professionalism and a commitment to the team. · Provides feedback to Leadership Team regarding supply level adjustments, removal of product and addition of supplies. · Performs cart overhaul tasks as needed. Replaces supply labels and bins, adds bins and labels to carts when adding a new supply to the area and reorganizes carts due to par level adjustments and/or reconfiguring of carts. · Assists in equipment/department deep cleaning efforts asnecessary. · Completes required documentation, i.e., assignment sheets, checklist, stat room requisitions, clean supply room auditing checklist, and time sheets according to department policies and procedures. · Assists in product recall activities and product conversions. · Reports discrepancies, problems or questions to Supervisor. · Exercises appropriate body mechanics, care and caution when handling and delivering materials. · Follows Hospital, Joint Commission and Department of Public Health guidelines and procedures. · Performs other duties as assigned.
